The Cultural Center Commission received six responses to its request for proposals to develop the old Rascal Café site at 420 East Main Street.
Developers Mark IV, Christa Construction, Dewolff Partnership, and Ferrara Jerum International were among the companies that submitted proposals.
Commission chairman James Vazzana received a letter from UR President Joel Seligman requesting a 36-month option to purchase the property. A spokesperson for the UR says Seligman is not ready to comment on the UR's interest in the site.
Douglas Fisher, a resident of the area, is proposing that the site be used as a park-like music venue where people can come and listen to live entertainment such as acts from the Jazz Festival and the Eastman Theater.
This is the second round of proposals the commission has reviewed. Vazzana says a thorough review of the proposals will begin next Wednesday.
The 1.5-acre site is often described as the most important undeveloped parcel in downtown. It is across from the Eastman Theater.
