A handgun was recovered from the cafeteria of East High School this afternoon.

City school district spokesman Tom Petronio says that East High School was in a lockdown after a student reported seeing another student with a weapon. The report was made to one of the school's two School Resource Officers (RPD officers). The building was secured and police were on site investigating. The district's mobility security task force also responded.

Two male students were positively identified and taken into police custody.

I am a student at East high. As soon our class heard the announcement to stay in rooms, with nobody, even teachers, in the halls everyone started joking about it, like it was a police drill of some sort. i knew someone was wrong however. I knew this was no ordinary hall sweep, but something more serious. One of my friends was like" OMG!. Something is going on. There is something seriousely wrong!". When we heard there was a gun in the school, me and some friends started getting worried. Especially knowing that we went halfway through the day with the possibility of being shot. The school should have known about the weapon as soon as the student(s) walked into the building via the scanning. It is unacceptable to know that the school officers did not know about the weapon beforehand. Yet, i am glad to know that nobody was hurt, threatened, or any thign else, and that the weapon was recovered, and suspects aprehended.
