New Kids on the Block "The Block"

The Kids are back, with both a more mature look and sound. Gone is the bubblegum pop (aside from hit single "Summertime"), in favor of more sexually explicit/R. Kelly fare, like "Click, Click, Click," "Dirty Dancing," and "Full Service." "The Block" is R&B lite, but it offers a few surprises. Guests Ne-Yo, Lady Gaga, New Edition, and Akon all fit well with the vibe of the disc, and the electronic flourishes actually enhance the tracks rather than distract. Lyrically, it's all sex, and it all sounds a tad bit clichéd. But what else would you expect? If you didn't like NKOTB the first time around, you're not going to like ‘em now. But if you're a 20something girl who dreams of being with a slightly creepy older man, then this album might just be for you. Still, I've got to give them credit for trying at all. A New Kids reunion? Who would've seen that coming?
