As a child, Amy Tan often escaped into the world of books. Lacking the motivation to fulfill her mother's aspirations for her to become a doctor and concert pianist, Tan's boredom as a child led to our enjoyment in her adulthood. Beginning with "The Joy Luck Club," Tan has published a shelf full of novels, many exploring her Chinese roots and ethnic relationships. Along with her writings, many of which are now movies, plays, and television series, Tan also explores her creativity in music as the singer - complete with whip - in the famous writers rock and roll group the Rock Bottom Remainders.
Tan comes to Monroe Community College, 1000 East Henrietta Road, on Wednesday, November 19, at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $15 and are available online at monroecctickets.com, or by calling 292-2534.
